Meet local author and Taekwondo champion Kaylynne Venn, author of Speak Up and Fight: A Survivor’s Fight for Healing, Justice, and the Power to Be Heard.

Before reaching her eighteenth birthday, Kaylynne had experienced 23 emergency room visits, 11 nights in hospital beds and more than 10 attempts to escape the pain of post-traumatic stress disorder following a sexual assault by a classmate during her first year of high school.

‍

In her powerful memoir, Kaylynne shares her journey from surviving trauma to reclaiming her voice, exploring the challenges she faced within the mental health system and during her legal battle against her rapist. Her story shines a light on the lasting impact of trauma, the importance of being heard and the difficult path toward healing and justice.
